Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at AIS West Elementary School! I am looking forward to another wonderful, fun filled year of learning with our students, faculty, staff, and parents. At this point, we will return to being an open campus, which means parents, teachers, and students can share in the learning face to face!

This year, we will continue using readers' and writers' workshops while integrating our science and social studies. Our math curriculum has changed to Eureka Math, and while we will also use a workshop model, there will always be time for students to practice what they are learning, as well as to demonstrate their understanding of mathematical concepts by building, drawing, and writing the math.

Our newest and most exciting project is the implementation of Positive Discipline. I, along with our assistant principals and 11 teachers, participated in a two day training certifying us to train all of our teachers in a program that is based on mutual respect, reflection, problem solving, and more as students learn those ever important life skills. I am also excited to reveal that I and a few other teachers will also be certified in training parents about Positive Discipline and how it can be used at home.

As you can imagine, there will be many opportunities for you to learn as well and to share in your child’s progress. Not only are we planning on a number of parent workshops on all of the above topics, but we also plan on having some open houses throughout the course of the year.

Here's to another year at AIS West Elementary School! It will be a fantastic one!
